RE: Awning with wind sensor

If it's an A&E and never worked properly I would suspect that the DIP switches in the control box were never set correctly right from the factory. The RV manufacturer doesn't check them and a lot of times the dealer doesn't know how to. A&E can provide you with the switch settings or Google it and you will find the information.

RE: Beaudry & Lazydays

The Beaudry deal is history. Lazydays are suffering as most of the industry is right now. Monday, August 18, 2008 Lazydays loss grows as demand for RVs shrinks By Greg Gerber @ 9:59 AM :: :: 0 Comments :: SEFFNER, Fla. -- Lazydays RV Center Inc. posted a $2.3 million net loss for the three months ended June 30, compared to a $402,581 net loss in the same period a year earlier. Revenue for the second quarter of 2008 was $136.6 million, down 32 percent from revenue of $201.4 million in the year-ago quarter. The company’s sales declined because of a decrease in overall industry demand for recreational vehicles, Lazydays said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Sales of both new and pre-owned vehicles dropped. The company sold 613 new vehicles in the second quarter of 2008, down 27 percent from a year earlier, while pre-owned sales fell 19 percent, to 692 vehicles. For the six months ended June 30, Lazydays had net income of $1.2 million on revenue of $360.8 million, compared to net income of $2.5 million on revenue of $442.4 million a year earlier. Lazydays, based in Seffner, is the largest single-site dealer of recreational vehicles in the United States. The company is privately owned but files reports with the SEC stemming from its May 2004 issuance of $152 million in public bonds as part of the transaction in which Bruckmann Rossser Sherrill & Co. LLC purchased majority control. "Given its size, we believe Lazydays serves as a proxy for industry retail trends, particularly in motorhomes, complementing other sources," said Craig Kennison, a financial analyst with R.W. Baird & Company. "Gross margin increased 130 basis points to 14% due to a more favorable mix of products. However, improved gross margins were more than offset by higher operating expenses." Kennison noted that new vehicle inventory grew 12 percent year-over-year, while pre-owned inventory grew 63 percent. "We believe an uptick in RV repossessions may be a factor in the ample supply of pre-owned inventory," he added.

Very well said Bruce.

RE: retiring soon and need a winter destination

Here's another vote for Texas. The Hill Country has many places that meets your description. We used to do the Yuma thing but since discovering Texas and particularly The Hill Country we have become winter Texans.

RE: trailer saver air pressure

It's going to depend on your pin weight. We run 90 psi to take it to the mark.

RE: Removing kitchen drawers...

It's a Teton right? Open the drawer all the way, now look at the end of the metal slide facing you. There is a black plastic doohickey on the end that has a tab that has to be pushed down to release the drawer. You need to hold down both sides on the drawer as you pull it all the way out.

RE: RV Price

That's correct, plus the RIV fee around $200

RE: RV Price

The MSRP on the web site would be the price in the US not Canada. That is exactly why I refuse to purchase an RV in Canada. Since NAFTA the only legitimate additional cost should be fluctuation of the dollar and CSA certification. CSA varies from a few hundred to around $1500 depending on how optioned the unit is. As others have stated you should be able to negotiate a significant discount from the MSRP if you shop with the US dealers, it won't be CSA but that is not a requirement when importing into Canada.

RE: Wintering in BC in a Motorhome

Forget straw bales. I don't think you will find a park that will allow this, however ridgid foam insulation is usually permitted. You really need to block the wind from blowing under your coach and of course you will need heat tapes and insulation on the utilities. Propane companies in the area can rent you a pig (large tank) for your stay. we have a number of folks who winter here in Vernon each year at www.swanlakerecresort.com and they seem to manage okay with the above preperations. Some years can be better or worse than others, talking to the ones who stayed last winter it was not one of the better ones.

RE: auto level system

I,m assuming it didn't do the air dump either? Does it even show the all up light lit? If the answers are no it would seem like it is power issue to the controller. Even with low batteries the controller should light up. When you say you had to manually retract the feet do you mean bleeding the hydraulics at each pump?

RE: ONSTAR antenna to Garmin?

My initial thought would be that this would not be a good idea. Since Onstar transmits you would be puting the rf output from Onstar directly into the GPS. I'm no expert but I think this could be an expensive mistake.

RE: Compatible system with Star Choice?

The MotoSat system is a model MSC-60 which is short for mobile Starchoice 60cm dish. I cannot believe the prices on these systems in Canada, you can purchase a MSC-60 in the US for just a tick under $2000

RE: Question for fellow snowbirds

kakampers, and the reason it was developed that way? The developer listened to what RVers told him they wanted and he gave it to them, what a concept! It may not be for everyone but we liked what we saw and it's not everyday that a developer delivers on their promise.

RE: How Much Canadian $$$$ is needed?

I wouldn't worry about having enough Canadian $ The major credit cards, Visa and mastercard are accepted pretty much anywhere. Should you need cash ATM's are never far away. I wouldn't carry any more than a few hundred. We fulltime and that is how we travel in both Canada and the USA.
